prime minister abhisit vejjajiva had sent e-mail to secretary general of the united nations organisation pan ki-mun to explain the situation, acting government spokesman panitan wattanayakorn said on sunday.
the prime minister had informed the un chief that the ongoing political turmoil is an internal affair of thailand and any intervention by agency of a foreign country would make no good to that country, he added.
mr abhisit was confident that the thai government can settle the problem, according to acting spokesman.
mr panitan said the situation on saturday night to sunday morning was improving and that the tension has been eased.
he admitted that men in military uniform had infiltrated and killed red-shirt protesters to incite violence.
the centre for the resolution of emergency situation was investigating.

the red-shirts at ratchaprasong area confronted the police in front of monks hospital near ratchaprasong intersection.
there was a brief skirmish and the police in riot gear retreated into the police heasquaters compound nearby to avoid further violence.

Curfew lifted in Pattaya

the centre for the resolution of emergency situation (cres) lifted curfew in pattaya on friday night.
the announcement, which was made at 8.45pm friday, is effective immediately.
curfew imposed in chonburi province greatly affected tourism in pattaya, so the cres decided to lift curfew there, according to local reports.
the curfew has been imposed in bangkok and 23 other provinces since wednesday.

22 wounded by Yala bomb blast

a total of 22 people were injured when a grenade exploded at a tea shop in yalaโ��s muang district on tuesday night, pol col piayawat chalermsri, the yala police chief, said.
the bomb victims were admitted to yala hospital. two were in critical condition.
the grenade was thrown at the crowded tea shop by a man riding pillion on a passing motorcycle, police said.
police blamed separatist militants.
